The Fury S Pro is a cloth control surface rather than a hard pad, which means more deliberate movement and more consistent tracking at low speeds — the right choice for the work side of this setup, where precision beats slide. At 450×400mm it is a large rather than a full-desk mat, which keeps it usable alongside a keyboard rather than swallowing the whole desk. The stitched edge stops the fraying that eventually ruins cloth mats, and the rubber base keeps it from sliding.
The surface under the mouse, sized so both the board and the mouse fit on the desk comfortably. Being cloth and washable, it is the more forgiving of the two approaches when a drink goes over it.
Cloth wears out and the weave flattens with use, unlike a hard pad which can last indefinitely. It also shows marks, and because it is not full-desk sized there is nowhere to rest a wrist at the edge. Control surfaces are the wrong choice for very fast flick movements where a hard pad would be faster.
